“Magnetic Gear Test Rig”
Magnetic Gears are a recent technological development that can theoretically significantly increase the performance and efficiency of geared systems. An (evaluation set) of 28 teeth, 8 diametral pitch magnetic gears was obtained to be compared to a set of magnetic gears with similar dimensions. A test rig was constructed to conduct experimental observations of the efficiency, load capacity and vibration characteristics of the gears. Investigation was also conducted of the magnetic properties and potential scalability and applications of these gears. Initial static load capacities were measured to be about 10in-lbf. Data is still currently being collected.
