“Cryogenic Propellant Feed System Analysis Tool Development”
A thermal model of a cryogenic fuel feed line system is developed for basic thermal control system sizing tasks. The steady flow energy equation serves as the model’s foundation. Cooling of the cryogenic fuel in the feed lines is performed by a passive thermodynamic vent system (TVS) acting as a counter-flow heat exchanger. Correlations from Gnielinski and Petukhov allow for the calculation of convection coefficients. The Lockheed Relation is used to calculate MLI heat leak into the system. The governing equations are solved iteratively to provide a temperature distribution of the fuel in the feed line. Various improvements may be made to the model to enhance fidelity and ease of use.
