NASA Academy Alumni Panel

July 18th, 2009, UCLA, Los Angles, CA

On the last full day in California, we headed to UCLA to hear a panel of Academy Alumni speak about their experience and the career work that they have subsequently done. The event was hosted by the NASA Academy Alumni Association. There were 6 speakers, each of whom gave a presentation:

  • Robert Hogg – Robotics engineer, JPL
  • Julie Townsend – Cruise operator, Surface Uplink Lead, and Rover Driver for Mars Exploration Rovers, JPL
  • Chris Lewicki – Former Flight Director, Mars Exploration Rovers, JPL
  • Will Pomerantz – Senior Director of Space Projects, X PRIZE Foundation
  • Heather Knight – Social Robotist, JPL
  • Mike Fabio – Google Liaison, X PRIZE Foundation

It was inspiring to hear all of these alumni talk. It was not too long ago that they were in similar positions as us. Many of them talked about how the academy had a strong influence on shaping their career paths. Following the panel, there was a question and answer session and a meet-and-greet with the panelist.
