The Space Vehicle Mock-up Facility (SVMF) is located inside Building 9 of Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Inside there are several Space Shuttle mock-ups, as well as full-scale mock-ups of modules on the International Space Station. It is primarily used for astronaut training and systems familiarization.
The facility also included a mock-up of the Russian spacecraft, Soyuz. While on our tour, we were lucky enough to see someone actually using POGO, the Partial Gravity Simulator. POGO is used to make one more accustomed to the dynamics of walking under partial gravity, for example on the moon. There was also someone maneuvering the mock-up of the Canada Arm during our tour, which was really neat.
