Education

I am about to enter my senior year of undergraduate chemical engineering at the Speed School of Engineering. The Speed undergraduate program includes three semesters of industry co-op experience, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and a master’s degree in engineering all in five years. I am also considering graduate education in biomedical engineering or medicine.

Experience

I have worked previously in industry for DuPont Fluoroproducts as an engineering co-op responsible for emissions calculations and rate of Vinyl Fluoride monomer production evaluation. I designed and wrote numerous procedure and process updates to increase safety, efficiency, production capacity, and to reduce emissions.

I spent my next co-op term as a Research Associate at the Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory in Newport, KY. WHCRL is a non-profit research organization dedicated to exploring the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer. While working there, I researched the effects of genetic variations on susceptibility to several cancers including prostate, ovarian, and cervical cancers. I took 2nd place in the KY Academy of Sciences undergraduate research competition and am awaiting publication of two proposals presenting the results of genetic influence on susceptibility.

Extra-Curricular Activities

While at the University of Louisville, I devote a great deal of my time to many student organizations in which I take an active role. I am currently the Vice President of the Speed School Student Council and a member of the Judicial Board for Triangle Fraternity to name a few roles. Over the past few years I have participated in over 14 intramural sports and have coached flag football, volleyball, and a choral ensemble.

My favorites include ping-pong, canoe regatta, and flag football. Since the age of five I have played the piano and to this day take great enjoyment in music and the arts. In Louisville I frequent plays, musicals, and jazz clubs and love playing ultimate frisbee at Waterfront Park.
