Orion and the Service Module

July 26, 2007

Mr. James Free presented an Orion CEV project overview. At Glenn he is responsible for the development, production, and sustaining engineering of the Service Module and CEV Spacecraft Adapter which are both elements of the Crew Exploration Vehicle. Orion is designed to orbit the moon for 210 days, the maximum number of days allowed by the propellant tanks. The Orion CEV is basically a 5 meter diameter capsule scaled up from Apollo. Jim’s presentation was very interesting and insightful.
